ARE MANCHESTER UNITED HEADING FOR A RELEGATION SCRAP?
"We've got to keep moving forward and winning games, simple as that," said Michael Carrick after their 2-0 defeat by Chelsea.
Carrick did get relegated once, with West Ham at the start of his playing career. West Ham finished third bottom with 42 points. It remains the highest tally any side has been relegated with across a 38-game Premier League campaign.
Manchester United's current tally of seven points from nine games would not even get them 30 points if it was continued for the full season.
United have not been in the relegation zone after nine games or more since November 1986, when they collected a single point in Sir Alex Ferguson's first two games in charge following Ron Atkinson's dismissal.
Their lowest position after at least nine games of a season since then was 17th in 1989-90. It is now nine games in all competitions since Carrick's side won, their worst run since 1988-89.

VILLA DROP LEGAL ACTION AGAINST JAMIE CARRAGHER
On Friday, Villa had said they would initiate legal action against the former England defender for what they described as "unacceptable insults" made by Carragher on the Stick to Football podcast.
Carragher apologised on Saturday for using "clumsy and wrong" language, and said his comments were "tongue in cheek".
The former Liverpool defender linked Villa boss Unai Emery with replacing Michael Carrick at Manchester United and told fans to 'shut up' in response to their criticism of him.
Though Villa never initiated legal action against Carragher, they have now ended their threat to do so following his apology.

ARSENAL EDGE LIVERPOOL TO GO TOP
Arsenal took advantage of Manchester City's defeat by Brighton as they edged a thrilling encounter at Liverpool to move three points clear at the top of the Premier League.
Ultimately, Havertz's early goal was enough for Arsenal to take all three points as they celebrated a first win at Liverpool in the Premier League since 2012.
The loss for Liverpool means they are fifth but nine points behind leaders Arsenal.
Alexander Isak should've made more of a penalty when he had his shirt pulled by Jurrien Timber, but laughed it off with the defender instead.
After the shock loss to League Two Fleetwood Town in the Carabao Cup in midweek, Arsenal needed a performance like this one.
