The Met Gala 2026, notably the most glamorous night in fashion, took place on Monday night at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City- once again it was one of the biggest celebrity events of the year. The theme for this year was “Fashion Is Art”, with the exhibition called “Costume Art”, focusing on how fashion can be used as a form of artistic expression. I had really high hopes for this years theme, it feels like one of the more broader themes that can be really open for different kinds of interpretation.

The event was hosted by Anna Wintour alongside co chairs Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman and Venus Williams. Around 450 guests attended the exclusive event, with ticket prices reportedly costing around $100,000 per person. Like every year, the Met Gala was full of huge celebrity arrivals, with Beyoncé attending the event for the first time in 10 years which we will come back to later.

Some of the biggest celebrities who attended included Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, Kim Kardashian, Doechii, Hailey Bieber, Emma Chamberlain, Naomi Osaka, Madonna, Blake Lively, Kate Moss and more. Social media was full of reactions throughout the night as fans discussed the best and worst dressed celebrities.

One of the most talked about arrivals of the night was of course the queen herself, Beyoncé. Who made her glamorous return to the Met Gala this year. She wore a custom dress designed by Olivier Rousteing, featuring a huge feathered cape and expensive diamond jewellery. Her look matched the theme perfectly and many people online said she was one of the best dressed celebrities of the night.

Rihanna also attracted huge attention as she arrived later in the evening wearing a custom Maison Margiela dress. Her look included sculptural designs and dramatic textures, which fitted the artistic theme of the event. As always, Rihanna’s outfit became one of the most photographed looks from the red carpet.

Only four of the Kardashian-Jenners were in attendance this year, Kris, Kim, Kylie and Kendall. Kim Kardashian, wearing one of the most talked about experimental outfits of the night, arriving in a sculpted orange fiberglass breastplate inspired by 1960s artwork. The look was dramatic, futuristic and very different from most outfits on the carpet. Kendall Jenner wore a sleek custom GAPStudio by Zac Posen outfit with dramatic wing inspired details. Her look was elegant but still fitted the artistic theme of the event.

Kylie Jenner, one of my personal favourites, attended in Schiaparelli Haute Couture and wore a bold fitted dress with edgy details that quickly became very popular online. Her look focused on high fashion and dramatic styling. Kris Jenner wore a sophisticated tailored look that mixed classic fashion with dramatic couture styling.

Doechii, another one of my favourites from this year, a lot of praise for fully embracing the theme in custom Marc Jacobs. Fashion critics said her look was one of the few that truly captured the “Fashion Is Art” concept. Emma Chamberlain was also praised online for her outfit, which was inspired by famous artists like Van Gogh and Edvard Munch while also including a vintage Mugler butterfly design.

Madonna also became one of the biggest talking points online after arriving in a strange sculptural headpiece that confused many fans on social media. Her outfit quickly went viral as people tried to work out what the design was supposed to represent.

As per usual, the Met Gala 2026 was another huge success and showed how fashion and art can come together in creative ways. Some celebrities played it safe, while others took major fashion risks. The Met Gala continues to be one of the most important and talked about nights in fashion.
