By now, I'm sure you've all heard the "Nothing beats a Jet2 Holiday!" meme that's been going viral everywhere. But as with every meme, there has to be an origin behind it. So let's take a closer look at how this meme started, and who is behind it.

Behind the microphone of the meme is British actor Zoë Lister. The advertisement was supposed to be a part of Jet2's feel-good marketing campaign, which served the purpose of making travel seem carefree and painless. Accounts on social media have since used the audio for other events going on around the world. Even the White House has chipped in and released the audio while people were being deported. While of course the meme has made Jet2 more widely viewed around the world, it is also sparking debate on whether Jet2 can actually be taken seriously, or if they have just become a massive meme at this point. 

The meme was created in 2024, when Jet2 put Lister's voiceover with Jess Glynne's 2015 track, "Hold My Hand." From there, users on social media have put the audio with people's flights being delayed, baggage getting lost, people getting sunburnt, etc. People around the world called it 'British chaos wrapped in a plastic cup of sangria'. Jet2 has widely embraced the joke and is even giving £1,000 holiday vouchers for those who submit the funniest Jet2 holiday memes. Even other companies have embraced the meme. Some Starbucks baristas are writing the joke on cups, and other companies are posting their version of the meme on their social media.
