The Philippines is the second country to select its act for the Eurovision Song Contest Asia, selecting "Sobra-Sobra" by CARMELLE. At 19 years old, she is also the youngest representative selected for Eurovision Asia so far! 10 artists competed in the National Selection, which was hosted at the New Frontier Theatre in Quezon City on Sunday night. The Filipino jury had 40% of the voting power, the Filipino public had another 40% of the voting power, and the final 20% of the voting power was made up of the international audience.
The song that won, "Sobra-Sobra," which translates roughly to "Too Much" was written by Nica Del Rosario and Mat Olavides. The lyrics express the rejection of double standards and harsh labels that are put onto females when they show anything remotely considered ambition, emotion, or confidence.

Unlike Bhutan, the host for Pili, Pinas! is a highly loved comedian and talk show host from the Philippines. His name is Vice Ganda, and he has been praised online for his hosting of the National Selection. A lot of people fell for his comedy, and his comedy, so this acted as an international market for him as well.
Carmelle herself rose to popularity through this National Selection as well. She originally came in 2nd as part of The Voice Kids, but she's also won the talent show "Tawag ng Taghalan" and was even part of Pinoy Big Brother. She can now add Eurovision Song Contest Asia to her list of skills.
