The Netherlands pull out of Eurovision 2027

In 2026, the Netherlands, Ireland, Iceland, Spain, and Slovakia all pulled out of the contest over Israeli participation. Once again, there were hopes for the Netherlands to participate this year, but not with Avrotros, the main broadcaster behind past entries. Avrotros decided to withdraw and boycott the event alongside the four other countries. At the end of September, the Dutch public broadcaster, NPO, stepped in and pledged that they would return the Netherlands to the Eurovision Song Contest in Burgas 2027.

However, this decision has been reversed. NPO's media director, Jurre Bosman, announced on Tuesday that Israel's participation elicits various reactions in society, causing discussion and division. Therefore, NPO has decided to pull out for 2027.

NPO's chair, Jet de Ranitz, stated:

"The organisation has been holding discussions with other broadcasters about participating in the 2027 contest."

"In those discussions, we initially felt there was sufficient support to return. Unfortunately, we were unable to find a suitable format for this."

"As a result, we must conclude that it is currently too early to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027."

"Due to the sensitivities surrounding the themes currently at play, we have decided to take a step back for the time being."

However, NPO have acknowledged that some fans may be disappointed, but the contest will still air on TV in the Netherlands.

Martin Green, the Eurovision Song Contest director, has said he was 'deeply sorry' that the Netherlands would not be taking part once again, adding, 'We understand their decision and we respect the strength of feeling behind it.'

Green also added that organisers recognise that opinions differ widely both within countries and between them, while also saying, 'We do not dismiss any of those views'. At the end, Martin Green said, 'We look forward to welcoming a Dutch entry when they feel the time is right."

What do you think of this ongoing boycott and unravelling news of in or out? And do you agree with the Netherlands once again backing out of the contest?
