Sombr, the multi-award-winning artist, has recently come under fire regarding claims that he is a 'nepo baby'.  The artist released his debut album in August of last year and has been under public scrutiny ever since he started gaining traction. Sombr, whose father is Andy Boose, is best known for his strong reputation in event planning and for founding AAB Productions. His mother, Bennah Serfaty, has the role of senior director for amfAR, which is a foundation for AIDS research.

As of recently, in an interview with ELLE Magazine, Sombr addressed the claims directly. "I will forever respect my dad and my mom. I'm so proud of them, because to devote your life to something like that is so incredible and important. To think that that could help me get signed or become a big artist because my dad devotes his life to fighting AIDS is just incredibly insane". He then went on to argue the fact that so many recent artists are being accused of either buying their way into the career or being nepo babies without any proof. "Every time I see an artist blow up, I'm like, 'Okay, this artist is great. I love them so much. They're so talented.' Three months later, somehow, they're a nepo baby."

Sombr has had an interesting relationship with his fame and how he feels about the whole industry. Especially being against artists choosing to label themselves as famous. "It's just lame. It's self-centred to call yourself famous. I don't even think of it as a positive thing. How can I describe being in the spotlight when I don't always want to be seen?" Further along in this interview, he delved into how he came about naming himself Sombr, highlighting his life growing up and the mental struggles he faced.

“It was just like teenage angst and rejection, being a pothead, skipping class, and being pissed off at the world. Recently, more than ever, I’ve fallen into a deep, deep depression when I’m on my own. Just being completely honest, I’ve seen darker points than I’ve ever seen. I’ve definitely had some of my darkest thoughts about my life, and I’ve hit a point lately where I can’t see a future. I can only see the past and present. It’s what I signed up for. I’m never going to be an artist who complains about that, because if I wanted to disappear from the spotlight, I would. I’m just sombre, man.”
