Welcome to Hall of Fame where each week we focus the spotlight on one of your favourite artists!

This week we are focusing on:

The Beatles

In Hall Of Fame this week, we're throwing it back yet again for the groups! We've already looked at the likes of Oasis and The Spice Girls, but one of the biggest bands in history, The Beatles have yet to  be focused under the spotlight! Known for being formed in Liverpool, The Beatles originated in 1960. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr made up the band. The group had no core sound, they experimented with all sorts from Pop Ballads to hardcore Rock and Roll! They are known for creating a fan craze known as "Beatlemania" which matches up with One Direction's fan base in the current time.

The group grew to fame in their own way, they originally began playing in pubs and clubs in the 60's, Ringo Starr not being part of the band at this time and instead "Stuart Sutcliffe" played bass. Brian Epstein, the bands manager and George Martin, their producer, formed the band in which Starr joined and they went on to release their first single "Love Me Do" in 1962. They continued to grew a fan base and success and in 1964, they took the US by storm. As of 1965 they were worldwide known and one of the biggest bands ever, they continued to make music and became the best-selling band in history. They sold over 800 million physical and digital copies of their albums worldwide.

The band split up in 1970 and went on to have successful solo careers. In December of 1980, John Lennon was shot and killed in New York. The assassination caused an uproar in the states and gun crime protests began. Later, George Harrison died of lung cancer in 2001. McCartney and Starr are still alive and musically active.
