New 'LGBT+ POPPY' HAS FACED BACKLASH ONLINE
Many LGBT+ Remembrance poppies have began to surface on the internet just in time for remembrance Sunday and Armistice day. The Doncaster Pride Instagram page is one of many to post and support the poppy, despite the major backlash the community has been facing in the media since it was noticed.
Many people online have called the LGBT+ community 'Disrespectful' and asking if 1 month to celebrate their pride isn't enough. Despite the fact that it very clearly not the whole of the LGBT+ community supporting the poppy, in fact many members of the wider LGBT+ community have criticized the new rainbow poppy and have too called it disrespectful.
The revelation of this new poppy has sparked awareness for other poppies, which aren't as wide spread. Such as, the purple poppy which represents animals, particularly horses that died during conflict, and the black poppy to represent black, African, and Caribbean efforts in the wars.
Many serving members of the British Army and Veterans have criticized the poppy stating that it's disrespectful toward them and those who fought and lost their lives. Others aren't supporting the poppy, but respecting the freedom and opinions that people have to make these poppies, one veteran said on twitter: "I didn't serve my 22 only for the freedom of people I agree with."
