What is the role of the 'Speaker?'

The Speaker of the House of Commons is essentially the presiding officer of the House of Commons and is the United Kingdom's lower, but more influential, chamber of Parliament. The speaker is also responsible for maintaining order during a debate, they also have permission to punish members who break the rules of the House.

Lindsay will be in charge of keeping debates in order during debates within the Commons and will call different MPs to speak at different times. Lindsay claimed he wants to keep positivity when speaking in the chair to show his signature kindness and reasonableness. This is due to his 28-year-old daughter Natalie Lewis-Hoyle who sadly was found dead at her home in 2017.
