Greater Anglia finishes short set services on the Wherry Lines

Railway enthusiasts from the East Anglia region all congregated at Norwich railway station on the 21st of September, not to welcome the new trains, instead, say a farewell to the old ones.

The Class 37 Short Hauled sets between Norwich and Great Yarmouth/Lowestoft have finally been withdrawn after 4 years of entertaining the locals, following the introduction of the new Class 755s on the line.

The last ever scheduled "Short Set" on the Wherry Lines was the 2057 service between Lowestoft and Norwich, the locos were also scheduled to run the 2140 service from Norwich but had to be pulled out of service due to low fuel.

Their withdrawal on this line, signals the end of scheduled Class 37 runs on our railways, with many already in preservation.

The Class 755s replacing these units, have been rolled out slowly since July and are bi-modal, running on Electricity where possible, these units will also reintroduce direct services from Lowestoft to London as of late 2020.
