Powerful storms swept across the Southern US on Sunday which resulted in major flooding and tornadoes. There have been 8 confirmed deceased, 3 of which were children. Nearly 90,000 people were without electricity in five major states. It is believed that the storms have caused major destruction, flattening most of a small town in Texas. The tornado was an EF-3 with winds of over 140 mph (225.31 km/h). The tornado destroyed dozens of houses, local businesses, a church, and a duplex. Authorities say some people had to be extricated from damaged dwellings. There are a reported 2 injuries in which they are non life-threatening, though there could be more due to the beginning of rescue efforts. The winds are threatening over 1000000 square miles of the US. Residents can help minimize property damage during the event by stowing away trash bins, planters, trampolines and other small outdoor items in a garage or shed. Larger items such as outdoor furniture should be properly secured. More information will be released as soon as it is available.
