the director of the greatest showman has announced a sequel is in the works
Michael Gracey, the director of the hit movie The Greatest Showman, has confirmed that a second movie is currently in development.
Speaking to The Sun, Gracey said that a sequel was inevitable seeing the success of the first film.
"When a movie becomes as big a success as this, it's only natural there is demand for a sequel. So those discussions have started and we are working on one right now," he told reporters.
Gracey said that getting the project off the ground was difficult due to a lack of investment, and that the success it has seen wasn't expected.
"There were huge doubts about it for a very long time and some backers withdrew their money," he told the Sun.
Hugh Jackman, the main star of the film, has showed his support for the sequel. During an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live, Jackman said: "If a genuine opportunity came up where it felt like the right thing to do, then yep, I'd get the top hat back out."
There's currently no expected date of release, however Gracey says that the movie is currently being produced.
