Technology giant Apple has announced it will release three new iPhone models over the next few months, as well as a new version of it's smart watch.

These new phones are called the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS MAX.

FEATURES

Following the success of the iPhone X, Apple has kept the notch design, however has added a new ultra-fast A12 Bionic chip which is reportedly up to 50% faster than previous chips, as well as a "most durable glass ever in a smartphone" display, which is larger than previous models.

The camera has also seen major improvements. All three new models feature a TrueDepth camera, which allows users to adjust the depth field of portrait photos. They also feature an improved background blur feature, better colour accuracy, a faster sensor, better low light support, and a faster Facial Recognition system. Apple calls these new features "a breakthrough."

The XS features a new custom OLED display which delivers "the most accurate colour in the industry." The XS also features 512GB of storage (on certain models), and comes in a variety of traditional iPhone colours. The XS MAX is essentially the "XS Plus," however Apple has decided to rename the iPhone Plus range to the iPhone MAX range.

The XR is meant to be a more budget-friendly version of the iPhone X, however has almost all of the same features as the XS (apart from a different display). It has a new Liquid Retina display which is reportedly "the most advanced LCD in the industry." The XR has also brought back the wide range of colours that were featured on the iPhone 5C. The current launch price is $749, which is higher than the iPhone 8's $699 launch price, however Apple say the price increase is because of the popularity of the more expensive iPhone X.

In recent years, Apple's market share in the smartphone industry has decreased due to the rise of newer, cheaper competitors, such as China's Huawei. The XS is definitely a 'shot of the bow' at it's rivals, who have been rapidly expanding their operations in order to compete more effectively with Apple. It's main rival, Samsung, is currently the number one smartphone producer, a position Apple badly wants.

Could this be the start of Apple's return to the top in the smartphone industry?
