Week 2: Drake
3rd Aug 2018
Welcome to Hall of Fame where each week we focus the spotlight on one of your favourite artists!
This week we are focusing on
Everybody loves a little bit of Drake, some more than some. We have recently been blessed with a brand new album and he is taking the charts by storm as per usual! The Canadian 31 year old musician found his fame from the hit TV show, Degrassi: The Next Generation in the early 00s. As of 2007, he deputed his music career by releasing a mixtape, Room for Improvement. He released several projects from then on before 2009 came around and he signed to Lil Wayne's Young Money Entertainment label.
Drake's first debut album "Thank Me Later" was released in 2010, the album sold just under 450,000 copies in the first week and was ranked number 1 on the Billboard top 200. The album soon went platinum. In 2015 the star won his first Grammy for "Best Rap Album" after the release of 2 further albums.
His fourth album "The Views" topped charts like no other, breaking multiple records. It sat on the Billboard 200 for 13 weeks without movement, making him and his album the first male to do so in over 10 years. We all know the hit single "One Dance" from the album, which topped charts in multiple countries all over the world, making it his first number one single as a lead artist as it was in the Billboard top 100 and 200 for eight weeks. But the lead single "Hotline Bling" off the album won two Grammy's, one for Best Rap/Sung performance and Best Rap Song.
Drake dropped his latest album "Scorpion" in June. The album is still topping charts and the hit single "In my feelings" is even an UpBeat favourite, and has started these viral challenges #InMyFeelingsChallenge and #KikiChallenge. The single has made Drake the record holder for most number one hits amongst rappers. The music video for "Non Stop" off his fifth album also recently dropped and can be watched here.
As always, We look forward to anything Drake related as we know we won't be disappointed. Although, we do wait a long time for new music.
